Ashlee is a native New Mexican, born and raised. She has two beautiful daughters, Kaylee (6) and a newborn. Kaylee was born with a severe to profound hearing loss. Ashlee's family did not not have any family history of hearing loss and there is no indication why she had hearing loss. Kaylee referred for followup after her newborn screenings in the hospital. During this follow up at one month, she was diagnosed with hearing loss. Kaylee now uses a hearing aid and a cochlear implant. She is currently attending the New Mexico School for the Deaf in Albuquerque and is finishing up kindergarten and getting ready for first grade. Ashlee is currently working as an educational assistant at the New Mexico School for the Deaf, which has allowed her to work with children that have a variety of needs in addition to hearing loss.
