Rachel is from the Clovis/Portales area and has been blessed with four beautiful children: Juan (17), Fabiola (16), Lorenzo (8), and Lorena (3). Rachel’s family’s world completely changed for the better once Lorena was born. Lorena started attending the Santa Fe New Mexico School for the Deaf Pre-school program when she turned 18 months old. The family has met so many supportive professionals, successful deaf adults, and other wonderful parents with similar circumstances as their own, throughout this ordeal. This family has truly been blessed. Rachel hopes to provide support and encouragement to newly informed parents of deaf/hard of hearing children; even if it is simply lending an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, or sharing a good laugh; together learning from one another on this journey, no one should have to go at it alone if they do not choose to. She is a recent graduate of Clovis Community College with an Associate in Liberal Arts; currently enrolled in the ASL Interpreting program at Santa Fe Community College. Rachel plans to pursue Tri-Lingual Interpreter certification to include Spanish. Her background experience is in Home Health Care, Case Management, Family Development, and Peer Counseling.
